"Winner, winner, chicken dinner!"
- Chef Guy Fieri
When some people think of chicken, they envision feathered fowl pecking around the barnyard. Others picture golden-brown fried drumsticks and wings on a plate! The chicken, native to the jungles of Asia, has long been "the most widely domesticated" bird, "raised worldwide for its meat and eggs."
Fried chicken is perhaps the most iconic chicken dish. Sometime during the Middle Ages, the Scottish became the first culture known to deep fry chicken, though it was without seasoning. In West Africa, chicken was seasoned and fried in palm oil. In the American South, these two culinary traditions collided to create the beloved dish we know today.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Drawing a Chicken Dinner
1. Begin by sketching the plate and the drumstick. Draw a sideways "C" shaped line to outline the top of the plate. Draw another curved line overlapping one end of it to outline the chicken leg. Draw a curved line beneath the plate to enclose its side.
2. Use a long curved line to sketch the second drumstick, enclosing the outline of the first. Notice the bulges at the narrow end. Then, use overlapping curved lines to draw a heart shape at the end of the drumstick. This is the bone. Use a curved line to enclose the narrow end of the first drumstick, partially hidden by the second.
3. Use curved lines to enclose the heart-shaped bone of the first drumstick. Then, use a long curved line to begin the outline of the mashed potatoes.
4. Use curved lines, some overlapping, to continue the outline of the mashed potatoes and to texture the top of them.
5. Texture the mashed potatoes with additional curved lines. Then, begin drawing the French-style green beans. Use pairs of long curved lines that meet at gentle points on each end.
6. Draw more green beans, partially hidden by the first. Again, use pairs of curved lines that meet at gentle points.
7. Begin outlining the bowl beside the plate. Use overlapping curved lines to outline the side and rim of the bowl.
8. Draw the mouth of the bowl and its swirled contents using a series of overlapping curved lines. Notice how the final lines meet at a sharp point at the top.
9. Complete the bowl using a curved line. Then, draw nebulous steam rising from the hot food. Use a series of wavy curved lines.
Color your cartoon chicken dinner. Chicken drumsticks are usually brown in color. Bon appetit!
